The Myanmar government announced from the office of President Win Myint the immediate release 25,000 prisoners, a fourth of its total inmate population, in amnesty to mark the traditional Lunar New Year celebration, though it remains unclear if the high number of pardons directly relates to the Covid-19 pandemic.
