Raul Castro Announces Retirement, Marking End of Era in Cuba

 

Raul Castro, the 89-year-old head of Cuba's Communist Party and younger brother of famed former dictator Fidel Castro, announced his retirement during a closed-door meeting of congress in Havana, ending a historic era of leadership spanning more than six decades, stating he will hand over the government to a younger generation "full of passion and anti-imperialist spirit".
