Former Mexican vice president Jorge Glas, who in December had a warrant issued for his arrest on corruption charges and subsequently fled to Ecuador for political asylum, was apprehended during a raid by Ecuadorian police in the capital city of Quito, a move which has been deemed by Central and South American heads of state as both a "flagrant violation of international law" and an "unusual and reprehensible" act.
