South Korean author Han Kang, former winner of the Man Booker Prize for her novel The Vegetarian, has been awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature, becoming the 18th woman in history to do so, for her "intense, poetic prose that confronts historical traumas and exposes the frailty of life," according to a statement made by the Royal Swedish Academy.
