New Zealand Legislators Vote to Suspend Lawmakers For Maori Haka Protest

 

New Zealand legislators voted to enact suspensions ranging 7 to 21 days to three lawmakers from the Te Pati Maori, the Maori party, for performing the haka, a chanting dance of challenge, during a parliament session on the debating chamber floor in November, protesting a now defeated controversial bill that would have reversed Indigenous rights.
