Chilean President Sebastian Pinera declared a state of emergency and a mandatory curfew after riots erupted in the capital city of Santiago and surrounding suburbs when a rise in public transportation costs caused widespread vandalism, looting and clashes with security forces which resulted in deaths of at least seven people.
