In a tit-for-tat move in response to escalating sanctions imposed by the United States, the Chinese government expelled and revoked the press credentials of journalists working for major news bureaus including the New York Times, The Washington Post and the Wall Street Journal, barring them from reporting inside mainland China, Hong Kong and Macau.
