More Than 1000 Dead After Magnitude 5.9 Quake in Eastern Afghanistan

 

A powerful magnitude 5.9 earthquake struck the rural, mountainous region of eastern Afghanistan, including four districts in the Paktika province which suffered the most severe damage, destroying roads, turning homes into rubble and leaving more than 1000 people dead and hundreds of others injured, prompting the Taliban government, in a rare move, to plead with the international community for humanitarian relief.
