Salman Rushie, a celebrated author and winner of many top literary awards, best known for his novel "The Satanic Verses" which marked him as a "blasphemer" by the late Iranian leader Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini in the 1980's, may lose an eye and suffered liver damage after an assailant rushed the stage during a speaking event in an amphitheater at the Chautauqua Institution and attacked him with a knife.
